sharing stories: giving young carers' a voice
A
thrilling evening at The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall resulted in The Village
Storytelling Centre securing key funding for our Sharing
Stories:Giving Young Carers’ a Voice project.
Six shortlisted arts organisations took to the stage on Monday 1 December
2008 to present engaging sponsorship pitches hoping to attract £15,000 to their
projects. We were delighted to
secure £7,500 sponsorship from Standard Life to enable us to work with 90 young carers in Pollok.
The Cashback for Communities scheme then matched this sum with a further
£7,500 securing a total of £15,000 for The Village’s work.
We are delighted to be working in close partnership with The Princess
Royal Trust for Carers: The Greater Pollok Carers’ Centre in delivering this
project.
The project will culminate in the publication of
a collection of the young carers’ stories – real and imaginary – in a
book.

On 26 March 2009 Arts & Business held an event at Edinburgh Castle to celebrate another year of successful match funded business sponsorships of the arts. The reception acknowledged arts and business partners who have received a Scottish Government funded New Arts Sponsorship or CashBack for Communities grant in the last year. The evening was presided over by Minister for Justice Kenny MacAskill. The Village Storytelling Centre, one of the successful participants at our Glasgow Art of the Pitch event and recipients of a CashBack for Communities grant, provided a story on the balcony of the Great Hall.
