Primary class sessions
Using the 5-14 curriculum requirements, special
programmes of worldwide stories have been devised for each primary year
group. These sessions have remained popular since their onset
with
Greater Pollok schools, and in recent years have grown in popularity with
schools from across the city and beyond. Each session is led by one
of our storytellers and ably assisted by two volunteers. These
sessions take place in the Village and include drama, craft/music and
computer-based activities. As the session comes to an end each child
receives a booklet relevant to the topic they have just covered and the
teacher is given a resource pack for follow up use when back in the
classroom.
Reminiscence Sessions
These sessions are attended by five local groups of older residents within the Greater Pollok area. Each month the reminiscers talk about old times as films, photographs and objects jog their memories over a welcome cup of tea. Many wonderful and enjoyable stories have been retold and all who attend, staff and reminiscers, constantly express how they love their visits to The Village. There are two special events held each year - in March our annual spring Tea Dance led by Jessie Couper and Iain McInnes, and our Concert at Christmas when some of the Pollok primary schools send a choir to sing for us.
Monthly storytelling Ceilidhs
Every month people of all ages and backgrounds
gather for an evening of stories and songs by candlelight in The
Village. These popular evenings give us a chance to be entertained
and to get to know each other. By evoking the age old traditions we
have a real sense of building community. For details of these and other
special events go to our Events calendar.
